MARCH is Fraud Prevention Month in Canada.Below are some examples and some tactics used by scammers.

Frauds, Cons, and ScamsPhishing Scams: These involve fraudulent emails or messages that appear to be from legitimate sources, tricking individuals into providing sensitive information like passwords or credit card numbers. Investment Scams: Often presented as "too good to be true" opportunities, these scams promise high returns with little risk. Common examples include Ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes. Romance Scams: Scammers create fake profiles on dating sites to exploit emotional vulnerabilities, often asking for money under various pretenses.Tech Support Scams: Victims receive calls or messages claiming to be from tech support, convincing them to grant remote access to their computers or pay for unnecessary services. Charity Scams: Especially prevalent after disasters, these scams solicit donations for fake charities, exploiting people's goodwill.Blackmail and Extortion: Scammers threaten to release sensitive information unless a payment is made. This can involve personal content or information obtained through hacking. Common Tactics Used by ScammersUrgency: Scammers often create a sense of urgency, pressuring victims to act quickly without thinking.Impersonation: Many scams involve impersonating trusted figures or organizations to gain credibility.Emotional Manipulation: Scammers exploit emotions, such as fear or compassion, to manipulate victims into compliance.Please be aware, do not share personal or financial information with persons you don’t know.Always take advice and reach out to your financial institution for clear guidance on any payment requests you may receive.Continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.Your efforts are invaluable as "Eyes & Ears" for the RCMP in your neighborhoods. Please remember, I am always available to come and speak to your residents at a resident’s meeting / Strata or coffee get togethers regarding Senior’s safety, Frauds & Scams, Personal Safety & Home security.
